5 Tips to Treat a Common Cold

They call it the common cold for a reason.  We have all woken up with these unpleasant symptoms, including congestion, sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. The common cold is a viral condition that affects the throat and nose. Preschool-aged children are most likely to develop the common cold, but this condition can affect anyone of any age.

The common cold is usually not a cause for concern, and the symptoms normally subside within a week or two. However, dealing with it can be a nuisance. Fortunately, there are several treatments available to help alleviate the symptoms. Below are some of the common cold treatments that are available:

There are a number of ways that the common cold can be treated at home.

1. Eat Chicken noodle soup or similar soups.
Chicken noodle soup has been used to treat colds for many years. It has anti-inflammatory properties, and it also helps alleviate congestion.

2. Rest
You may want to consider staying home from work and school and spending the day resting. Resting will allow your body to recuperate faster. Staying home from work or school will also prevent you from infecting others. Do not exercise and avoid as much physical activity as possible.

3. Drink lots of fluids
You need to make sure that you drink plenty of fluids. Clear broth, juice, water and warm lemon water are the best types of beverages to drink when you have a cold. You should avoid consuming alcohol and caffeinated beverages until you get well - those types of beverages can potentially cause dehydration.

4. Take a Hot bath
A hot bath or shower can clear up your nasal passage and is also relaxing.  Inhaling the water vapor from a hot shower can also help relieve congestion.

5. Increase intake of Vitamin C
Eat fruits and vegetables that are full of vitamin C including oranges, lemons, grapefruit, celery, leafy greens, and bell peppers.
Beyond these at home treatments, there are several cold medications that can also help ease the symptoms of a common cold.

If you are dealing with congestion, use the Eu-Clear Inhalant. The Eu-Clear Inhalant can be added to a medication cup or water. It helps loosen phlegm and clear the nasal passages.
Senega and Ammonia Cough Mixture contains senega root soft extract and ammonium bicarbonate, two ingredients help ease cough. Vicks Vaporub helps alleviate nasal congestion and muscle aches and pain. It contains cedar leaf oil, thymol, nutmeg oil and turpentine oil. Loratadine Tablets help alleviate watery eyes, runny nose and sneezing.

Unfortunately there is no quick fix for the common cold; however, if you follow these tips to treating your cold, your time under the weather can be shorter and much more bearable.  Get well soon!
